PEOPLE are being invited join the Lord Mayor of Leicester on a charity walk of the city’s sporting stadiums next month.

The Lord Mayor Cllr Dr Susan Barton has teamed up with United Leicester, a partnership project delivered by the city’s professional sports clubs through their official charities, to host the event in support of Charity Link.

The charity walk takes place on Friday 10 May. The walk begins at midday from the King Power Stadium. Participants will walk from stadium to stadium on a route a route taking in Leicester County Cricket Club (Uptonsteel County Ground, Grace Road), Leicester Tigers (Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium) and Leicester Riders (Mattioli Arena), before returning to the King Power Stadium at around 3.30pm.

Refreshments will be available on the route and everyone taking part will receive a medal at the end of the walk.

People can register at the King Power Stadium on the day from 11am, or online at www.charity-link.org/product/stadium-to-stadium-walk-ticket

Registration costs £6 per person with proceeds supporting Charity Link.

Established for over 140 years, Charity Link helps individuals and families in desperate need to have the essential items we all deserve for a decent standard of living. Charity Link works closely with around 250 community organisations and charities to get help to those who need it, when they need it, and ensure that people in financial hardship are dry, warm, clean, safe and fed.

The Lord Mayor Cllr Susan Barton said: “I hope as many of you as possible will join me on the walk. This is a perfect chance to celebrate our city’s fantastic sports clubs, to relive our sporting successes, get fit and to raise money for Charity Link all at the same time, and perhaps make new friends. Why not wear your favourite team’s colours, if you have one? I’m really looking forward to welcoming everyone joining this charity walk. It will be a fun and interesting way of taking in all the city’s main sporting stadiums plus other Leicester highlights, all in one afternoon.”

“If you can, come along to the King Power Stadium to join me and take part. It will be a great chance to get outdoors, explore our city and help raise money for a fantastic local charity which I have been proud to support as Lord Mayor.

“Thank you to United Leicester and our sporting clubs that have helped make this event possible.”

United Leicester is a partnership project between Leicester City in the Community, Leicester Riders Foundation, Leicester Tigers Foundation, Leicestershire CCC in the Community, and Leicester Hockey Club.
