City household waste collections unchanged for Christmas

Published on Monday, December 5, 2016

RECYCLING and wheelie bin collections in Leicester will be unchanged over the Christmas period this year.

With Christmas Day falling on a Sunday, city residents will have their bins and recycling bags collected on the same day of the week as usual with no planned break in service.

Collections will take place as normal on Bank Holiday Tuesday (27th). Refuse and recycling collection days following New Year weekend are also unchanged.

Cllr Adam Clarke, assistant city mayor for energy and sustainability, said: "With the number of bank holidays over the Christmas period, it's often necessary to move collection days. However, this year we’re happy that we have been able to work with Biffa to keep it really simple and there will be no changes to collections at all."

The council’s two recycling centres – at Gypsum Close and Freemen’s Common – will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. They will also close early at 2pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
