A SUMMER-long programme of free sport and fitness activities on two city parks gets underway this weekend.
Cossington Recreation Ground and Spinney Hill Park will launch their Active Parks schemes on Saturday (Jul 16).
Both parks will be offering gentle introductory sports sessions including netball, table tennis, pop-up cricket and walking football.
There will also be free fitness sessions ranging from running for beginners, dance aerobics and walking groups.
Spinney Hill Park will also be offering guided sessions on the park’s outdoor gym and yoga style stretching, while Cossington Recreation Ground will run Bollywood-style dance sessions and outdoor circuit training.
Cllr Piara Singh Clair, assistant city mayor for leisure and sport, said: “The Active Parks scheme is a great way to encourage more families to take part in healthy outdoor activities on the city’s parks this summer.
“The sessions on offer are suitable for all ages and abilities and perfectly suited for families to enjoy together.”
All sessions are free of charge but anyone taking part must sign-up in advance at www.leicester.gov.uk/activeparks
A full timetable of activities is also available online. The scheme runs until Sunday, August 28.
