New 20mph zone for streets near Saffron Lane

Published on Wednesday, October 19, 2016

TRAFFIC calming measures and a 20mph zone are to be brought in on a number of residential streets east of Saffron Lane.

Streets including Whittier Road, Copinger Road, Bloomfield Road, Heathcott Road, Cheviot Road, Cairngorm Close and Grampian Close will have 20mph zones introduced on them.

In addition, speed humps will be brought in along Bloomfield Road, with speed cushions on Whittier Road, Copinger Road and Heathcott Road. A raised junction table will also be installed at the entrance to the proposed new development off Heathcott Road.

In consultations on the scheme, 88 percent of residents backed a 20mph limit, and 74 percent supported the traffic-calming measures.

Detailed designs will now be drawn up, and new Traffic Regulation Orders brought in to enable the changes. The project will cost about £40,000 and could be in operation by January 2017.

The scheme is the latest in a citywide programme of 20mph zones in areas around schools, where requested by residents.
