Published on Wednesday, August 10, 2016

YOUNGSTERS living in Leicester can swim for free at a number of city leisure centres.

Four of Leicester City Council's swimming pools offer free swims for young people aged 16 and under.

The sessions previously ran only in the summer holidays, but now take place throughout the entire year.

Cllr Piara Singh Clair, Assistant City Mayor responsible for culture, heritage, leisure and sport, said: "Our free swims scheme is very popular across the city. It gives young people an opportunity and added incentive to stay active and healthy."

The four city council swimming pools are Braunstone Leisure Centre, Cossington Street Sports Centre, New Parks Leisure Centre and Spence Street Sports Centre.

Timetabled sessions are open to all young people, aged 16 years or under, who live in the city.

Anyone aged 16 years and under who wants enjoy a free swim at the participating leisure centres need to register for The Card. To do this, they need to take some ID with their home address on it to one of our leisure centres.

Children nine years and under enjoying a free swim must be accompanied by someone 16 years or over - that person (or persons) will need to pay the full admission price to go swimming.

Our leisure centre swimming pools have individual admissions policies. Please contact your preferred leisure centre before hand to find out more.
