No changes to Christmas waste collections in city
Published on Friday, December 23, 2016
CITY residents are being reminded that recycling and black wheelie bin collections will be unchanged over the Christmas period.
Collections will take place as normal on Bank Holiday Tuesday (27 Dec).
Refuse and recycling collection days throughout the rest of the week between Christmas and New Year, and following the New Year weekend, will also take place as normal.
Between Christmas and New Year only, any extra bags of general waste placed by the side of wheelie bins will be collected. There are no restrictions on the number of orange bags that can be left for collection.
The council’s customer service line will be closed on Tuesday (27 Dec) and Wednesday (28 Dec). However, any missed bin or recycling collections can still be reported online at www.leicester.gov.uk/myaccount
The council’s two recycling centres – at Gypsum Close and Freemen’s Common – will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. They will also close early, at 2pm, on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Cardboard and plastic packaging, Christmas cards, sweet and biscuit tins and most wrapping paper can be recycled through the orange bag service. However, shiny plastic-type wrapping paper should be put in black wheelie bins.
Real Christmas trees can be taken to the council’s recycling centres for composting.
