Open day at historic cemetery

Published on Thursday, July 21, 2016

GUIDED tours of a historic city cemetery will be on offer at an open day this weekend.

The open day has been organised by the Friends of Welford Road Cemetery to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the visitor centre on the site.

From 2.30pm-5pm on Saturday 23 July, there will be craft activities, cream teas, ‘find your ancestor’ sessions and guided walks.

Local artist Linda Harding will lead a silk painting session as part of the Story of Parks project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and looks at the history and heritage of Leicester’s parks and open spaces.

Admission to the event is £5, with profits going to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal in aid of the Leicester Children’s Holiday Centre in Mablethorpe.

Further information about the event is available from the cemetery visitor centre on 0116 254 5920 during its opening hours of Friday 10am-4pm, or during the weekend from 10am-1pm.

Car parking will be available at the cemetery.
