Volunteers sought to help out at cycling events

Published on Friday, July 29, 2016

VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help out with two major cycling events taking place over the summer.

On Sunday 14 August, the city council and British Cycling will once again be hosting an afternoon of cycle racing culminating in the Castle Classic elite race, which will see up to nine teams competing on a traffic-free circuit encompassing the King Power Stadium, Mile Straight and Leicester Castle.

And on Sunday 28 August, thousands of people will take to the streets of Leicester for the annual Sky Ride – a chance to explore the city by bike.

A variety of volunteer roles are available, including route marshals, bike stewards and people to help with bike parking and hand out information to visitors.

Volunteers will be briefed on their roles and will get free refreshments on the day, plus an ID badge and hi-vis vest to wear at the event. They also get a free Ride Leicester goodie bag with bandana.

They need to be comfortable dealing with members of the public, happy to attend a briefing session before the events, able to work at least a four-hour shift and familiar with Leicester.

Shifts run between 9.30am-4.30pm for Sky Ride and from 12.30pm-5.30pm for the Castle Classic.
