Reminders for residents near Elton John venue

Published on Wednesday, June 8, 2016

PEOPLE living in the streets close to Leicestershire County Cricket Club are reminded that the Fischer County Ground on Grace Road will be hosting an Elton John concert on Saturday (11 June).

The cricket club has developed an extensive traffic management plan for the event, which includes a temporary residents-only parking scheme in the area, additional parking and loading restrictions, and a temporary one-way system on Grace Road, Duncan Road, Park Hill Drive and Milligan Road.

The parking restrictions take effect from 9am on Saturday 11 June, with the temporary one-way system in place from 3pm. All of the temporary measures will operate until midnight.

Head of Highways Martin Fletcher said: “The cricket club has been working hard on its traffic management plan, which aims to get 17,000 fans in and out of the Grace Road ground, while minimising the impact on local residents.

“The city council will be supporting the cricket club as it hosts this special event, and staff will be on duty at Area Traffic Control on Saturday night to help keep traffic moving in the area.”

Streets covered by the temporary residents’ parking scheme are as follows:

Knighton Lane; Harold Street; Denmark Road; Vernon Road; Percy Road; Manners Road; Belmont Street; Lorraine Road; Florence Street; Curzon Road; Hawkesbury Road; Park Hill Avenue; Kempson Road.

Any residents still requiring parking permits – enabling them to park near their homes in the affected area on Saturday – should contact the cricket club on 0116 283 2128 as soon as possible. Residents are reminded that any cars without permits, or cars parked where restrictions are in place, will be ticketed and, potentially, towed away.

Concert-goers heading for Grace Road are advised to walk, use public transport, or to make use of the special arrangements put in place by the cricket club.
