Time running out to nominate sporting heroes

Published on Tuesday, October 25, 2016

PEOPLE have just one week left to nominate local sports stars and dedicated volunteers who help make Leicester’s sports clubs tick.

Leicester City Council is running its annual Sports Awards, to recognise and honour people or teams who help run clubs, as well as individual sporting achievements.

Nominations can include volunteers, coaches, teams or individuals, including the unsung heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep clubs open and running smoothly.

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, November 1.

There are 12 categories and all nominees must live, attend school, volunteer or represent a club within the city boundaries of Leicester.

All shortlisted nominees will be invited to a presentation evening on Thursday, December 8, in the Attenborough Hall at City Hall, 115 Charles Street, Leicester LE1 1FZ.

Assistant city mayor for culture, heritage and sport, Cllr Piara Singh Clair said: “This last year has been fantastic in terms of sporting success within the city, which has so much to offer in terms of its sporting talent.

“But away from the headlines there are also scores of people who help keep sport alive at a grass roots level, and who light the spark to help those sports men and women reach their potential.

“These awards are a chance both to recognise local sporting successes, and the people behind the scenes who help to make it possible.”

The 2016 Sports Awards Nominations recognise achievements between September 1, 2015 and August 31, 2016.
