Pets’ Corner reopens for Easter holidays

LEICESTER’S Pets’ Corner reopens to the public tomorrow (Friday 7 April) – and everything’s ready for the Easter holidays.
The popular attraction in Abbey Park has been closed since December as part of measures to prevent the spread of avian flu, but it’s now ready to welcome visitors once again.
During the four-month closure, parks staff have been busy carrying out essential maintenance work – including installing new roofs on the aviaries – and the animals have been busy too, with lots of new baby rabbits and guinea pigs joining the other animals in the Pets’ Corner pens.
Four new goats have also been welcomed to Pets’ Corner, but the boisterous brothers are yet to be named. A special Easter event next Wednesday (12 April) will give members of the public the chance to meet the new goats – and to give each of the four boys a name.
Parks officer Jenny Jackson said: “Our new goats are going to be a big hit with our visitors because they’re full of fun and mischief. But at the moment they don’t have names.
“Pop down to Pets’ Corner next Wednesday for our special Easter event, meet our friendly goats and then let us know what you think the four boys should be called.
“The winning names will be posted on plaques on the goats’ pen – and the names of the people who suggested them will be displayed there too.”
The Pets’ Corner Easter Event runs from 11.30am until 1pm on Wednesday 12 April.
Activities include an Easter quiz, an egg and spoon race and an Easter bonnet competition. Children wishing to take part in the competition should take their bonnets to Pets’ Corner by 12.30pm. Everyone taking part in the activities will receive a small gift.
Admission to Pets’ Corner and all activities at the Easter event are free of charge.
The Pets’ Corner Easter Event has been organised by the city council and the Friends of Abbey Park and is sponsored by Billy Bates Funfair.
Pets’ Corner will be open to the public every day from tomorrow (Friday 7 April).
