Get a taste for an apprenticeship at summer roadshow

Published on Tuesday, August 8, 2017

LEICESTER Apprenticeship Hub is launching a pop-up roadshow at Fosse Shopping Centre this summer to help connect local people with apprenticeship opportunities.

Between Wednesday 9 August and Friday 18 August the team will be offering daily advice and insights into the world of apprenticeships at their pop-up unit in the Fosse Food Court.

People will be able to come and drop-in between 10am to 3pm daily, to help people find out more about the benefits of undertaking an apprenticeship, and the hundreds of vacancies on offer in the local area.

Apprenticeship Hub advisors will be on hand to discuss opportunities and offer advice to people interested in exploring the chance to take up an apprenticeship locally. There will also be representatives – including current apprentices – from a range of local employers on hand to discuss the apprenticeship opportunities that they offer. These will include local companies Ford & Slater, Nylacast, NHS Leicester, Recruit Fosse and others.

Cllr Waddington, Assistant City Mayor for jobs and skills, said: “The summer holidays are usually a welcome break for students, but for those eagerly awaiting the outcome of their GCSEs or A levels it can also mark the start of a new chapter in their lives.

“The summer apprenticeship roadshow has been organised to help young people and their parents find out more about the range of apprenticeships on offer in the local area and make the most of their achievements to date. Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to start their careers, learn real skills in the work place and get paid a salary.”

Adrian Young, shopping centre manager at Fosse, commented: “We are delighted to be hosting this event; it is a really useful opportunity for local people to gain insight, training and access to opportunities. We are pleased to be working with the Leicester Apprenticeship Hub and welcoming them to the centre this month.”

People attending the roadshow will also be able to register for the next Hub100 event, which is due to take place at Leicester Adult Education College on Thursday 31 August. Hub100 events allow candidates to be assessed and interviewed on the day, with 100 vacancies available at each event.

Leicester Apprenticeship Hub is run by the city council’s economic development team and provides information, advice and guidance to help young people find vacancies, make successful applications and improve their readiness for work.
