Changes to advertised opening times at Leicester's ice rink

Published on Friday, December 22, 2017

PEOPLE planning to visit Leicester’s ice rink over the Christmas holidays are advised that there have been changes to some of the advertised opening times.

On Christmas Eve (Sunday 24 December) and New Year’s Eve (Sunday 31 December), the ice rink will close at 6pm, with the last session starting at 5pm.

The ice rink will be closed all day on Christmas Day, as advertised, but it will also be closed on New Year’s Day (Monday 1 January).

On all other days, Leicester’s ice rink will be open from 11am – with the last session starting at 8pm – until Monday 8 January.

Director of tourism, culture and inward investment Mike Dalzell said: “We’ve taken the decision to close the ice rink on New Year’s Day in light of the fact that bus services won’t be running and the majority of city centre shops will be closed.

“No tickets for New Year’s Day have been sold, so it seems as though most people are planning to spend a quiet day at home.

“'We imagine people will be keen to get home early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s eve too.”

Since the ice rink opened on 9 December, nearly 10,000 people have enjoyed a spin on the ice, with more than 12,000 tickets now sold in total.

Tickets for the timed sessions can be bought in person at the Visit Leicester store on Gallowtree Gate, online at, and from the ice rink box office at BBC Radio Leicester, just next to the ice rink.

Skate hire and a 45-minute session on the ice cost £8 for adults and £6.50 for children/concessions at off-peak times (11am-4pm Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays). Tickets for sessions at all other times cost £9 for adults and £7.50 for children/concessions.

Groups of four or more people will save 10% on standard prices, with a 15% discount available to groups of 11 or more people and 20% off for groups of 30 or more.

Each session starts on the hour, allowing 15 minutes for people to change in and out of their ice skates and a full 45 minutes on the ice.
