Trade for a tenner – or less – at city markets

TRADERS can rent a stall at Leicester Market for just £10 a day as part of an introductory scheme.
Under the scheme, anyone who is new to the market can enjoy eight weeks of trading at the introductory price.
And any new stallholders who want to set up at Beaumont Leys Market will pay just £6 a day to trade there.
Leicester Market is open from Monday to Saturday every week, while Beaumont Leys Market is open from Wednesday to Saturday.
Markets development officer Adam Piotrowski said: “Our new-look trader scheme is now open, and it’s designed to make it really easy for people to have a go at market selling for the first time.
“All you have to do to trade at Leicester Market is come to our customer care centre, at 2-4 Market Place South, between 8am and 8.30am on the morning you want to trade.
“You’ll need to bring some paperwork with you – details are on our website – but once you’ve filled out a quick form, you’ll be allocated a stall for the day. There’s no need to book in advance.”
The process is similar at Beaumont Leys Market, where prospective traders just need to report to the market office from 8-9am on the day they wish to trade.
Market trading is great way to start a new business with minimal overheads. Famous names such as Superdry, Innocent smoothies, Marks & Spencer and Dunelm all started out as market stalls.
Adam added: “Our staff are dedicated to helping traders succeed and we have market inspectors who can offer tips and advice about trading on the market. We’re also always on the lookout for new and original ideas and products, so if you have something different to offer, get in touch!”
