Road widening and surfacing work due at Keyham Lane West

Published on Tuesday, May 16, 2017

ROAD improvements and surfacing works are due to be carried out on part of a busy road.

The works are planned for Keyham Lane West, between Keyham Lodge School and Hamilton Community College, and will include widening the road, installing a new footpath on the northern side, drainage work and new lines/road signs.

The changes are being made to improve the flow of two-way traffic, and to make the route safer for pedestrians.

The works will begin on Monday, May 22, and will be carried out in phases over 13 weeks, in order to limit disruption. Work will take place Monday to Friday from 7am to 5.30pm.

During the first four phases (12 weeks), work will be carried out along stretches of the road, using single lane closures and allowing traffic through using temporary traffic signals.

The last phase of the works will involve a full road closure for five days, for road surfacing works. This is planned for the third week of August 2017.

The exact date of those works depends on the progress of the rest of the scheme, and will be confirmed nearer the time. During the closure, traffic will be diverted along Hamilton Lane, New Romney Crescent, Netherhall Road and Hungerton Boulevard.

The work is part of planning obligations by Redrow Developments, which will operate its strict code of conduct keep disruption to a minimum, and to keep the community informed of any additional works.

Bus services will operate normally during the first 12 weeks, and there will continue to be pedestrian and cycle access, although different arrangements will be made during the road closure.
