Christmas gifts and seasonal cheer at city’s art market
Published on Friday, December 14, 2018
PEOPLE can pick up a crafty Christmas treat this weekend at the Art at Christmas Fair.
Organised by Leicester City Council, the art fair will take over Leicester Market on Sunday 16 December. Visitors will have the chance to buy direct from dozens of local painters, sculptors, photographers and craft artists.
The event runs from 11am until 5pm and admission is free.
Cllr Piara Singh Clair, deputy city mayor responsible for culture and leisure, said: “Our new Art at Christmas fair is a wonderful chance to support local artists who have the chance to showcase their work for sale on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.”
Visitors to the Art at Christmas fair can combine it with a trip to Santa’s snow-topped grotto in the new Market Square.
Anyone who’s written a list for Santa will be able to hand their letter over in person – or they can post it in Santa’s special post office close by on Market Place. And of course every child who meets Santa will be given a small gift – free of charge.
Santa will be in the square from 10am to 6pm on Saturdays, 10am to 4pm on Sundays and from 11am to 6pm from Monday to Friday.
He will be in his grotto – which is surrounded by Christmas trees – every day until Saturday 23 December.
Santa in the Square is a free Christmas experience for local children provided by Leicester City Council and run by Leicester Markets.
