Big Garden Bird Watch at city park

Published on Tuesday, January 23, 2018

PEOPLE are being to take part in a national bird watch event at a city park this weekend.

Fledgling bird watchers can join a free bird walk at Abbey Park on Saturday (27 Jan) as part of ‘The Big Garden Bird Watch’.

The annual survey is organised by the RSPB and askes participants to donate an hour of their time to identify and count the birds they see. The information is then used by the charity to track the rise and fall of different garden bird species.

The Abbey Park bird walk will be led by experts from Leicestershire and Rutland Ornithological Society (LROS) who will provide help identifying birds spotted. The park is known to be home to green woodpecker and the tree creeper.

To take part in the event, meet at Abbey Park Education Centre from 9.30am. The walk will begin at 10am and last for around one hour.

Binoculars will be provided, but people are welcome to bring their own.
