Summer cooking events to begin at Leicester Market

THE aromas of outdoor summertime cooking will be filling Leicester Market from next month as part of a series of culinary events.

Local chefs will be carrying out free cooking demonstrations on Corn Exchange Square every Friday lunchtime for four weeks in August.

Chefs will show people the basic recipes and encourage them to develop them into their own healthy meals. Sessions will begin on Friday, August 3, at 12.30pm, continuing for four weeks.

Many of the mouthwatering dishes will be summer-themed and cooked on a barbecue, concentrating on a variety of different approaches.

The first session, on August 3, will see chef Liam Watson from the Pop Up Smokehouse, while on August 10 visitors will be able to get healthy barbecue ideas from chef Pratik Master, of Lilu Restaurant.

On August 17, Kwoklyn Wan – brother of TV makeover maestro Gok Wan, and owner of new Wanton’s eatery in Leicester – will be running a session on Chinese cooking, while the final session on August 24 will give visitors the chance to create vegan/gluten free food thanks to chefs from new city centre gastropub The Head of Steam.

Leicester Market development officer Adam Piotrowski said: “We hear regularly about the health problems associated with unhealthy eating, and one simple way to tackle these problems is by having less processed and fast foods, and instead having more homemade meals and fresh food. 

“We thought it would be great to have local chefs cooking for local people with market produce to show them some easy, healthy recipes.”
