Bede Park slide reopening delayed

Contractors are working on site to install a new wooden supporting structure – which was fabricated by the original manufacturer Kaiser & Kuhne in Germany – and had hoped to have work complete by this weekend.
Due to the complex nature of the work, which requires specialist welding, the slide will not now reopen before the schools’ half term holiday at the end of May.
The slide was originally closed to the public in August 2016 when an independent safety inspection identified decay in the wooden frame that supports the slide.
A Leicester City Council spokesperson said: “We are very sorry that this work is taking longer than originally expected. The delay will be disappointing news for families that were looking forward to the slide reopening after such a long time.
“We are hopeful that the work will be complete so that the slide can reopen during the schools’ half term holiday and in good time for the forthcoming Riverside Festival.”
The repair works are expected to cost in the region of £80,000, and will be funded through Section 106 developer contributions.
