SHOPPERS are being encouraged to buy locally this weekend for Small Business Saturday (1 December) – with traders at Leicester Market on hand to supply a variety of locally-sourced produce.

Small Business Saturday is a nationwide event that encourages people to support small, independent traders. Stallholders at the market are stocking fresh, locally-sourced products including meat, cheese, eggs, honey, bread and pork pies.

Both the outdoor market and award-winning food hall are also poised to open up on the Sunday before Christmas – 23 December – to help people stock up for their festive feast.

Butchers, fish and cheesemongers at the market are now taking orders for Christmas food, with turkey, gammon, duck, goose, pheasant, specialists chutneys, sauces and cooked meats all available.

Fresh flowers and Christmas bouquets are also on offer, as well as confectionery, Christmas cards and wrapping paper.

And from 8-23 December, New Market Square will be hosting a very special guest, with Santa in the Square. Children can follow the pathway through the festive trees and meet Father Christmas in his beautifully decorated grotto – and it’s all free.
