WITH less than two months to go before Leicester’s Christmas ice rink returns to Jubilee Square, skaters can now start planning their visits to the popular city centre attraction.

From today (Thursday 11 October), people will be able to book their 45-minute sessions on the ice via Leicester’s dedicated Christmas website – www.christmasinleicester.co.uk

This year’s skating experience promises to be even better than in 2017, with a much larger rink that will give everyone more space – and a much-improved skating surface, thanks to a special smoothing machine that will take to the ice between sessions to keep the rink in tip-top condition.

At 40m x 17m, the 2018 ice rink will be 50% bigger than last year’s attraction.

Skating aids for young children – in the shape of penguins and seals – will be available again, but this year they can be booked in advance online, or hired on the night at the ice rink, subject to availability.

The real ice rink will be at the heart of Leicester’s Christmas events, with the giant big wheel – the Wheel of Light – joining it in Jubilee Square once again.

Leicester City Council's festivals and events manager Maggie Shutt said: “It might seem early to be thinking about Christmas, but we know that schools, clubs and corporate clients like to make their plans well in advance.

“This year we’re providing a much bigger ice rink with a much better skating surface, which we hope people of all ages and abilities will enjoy as part of a family outing or a Christmas night out.

“Look out for special events and theme nights at the ice rink, which will be fun for everyone – whether you’re an absolute beginner or an experienced skater.”

Tickets for the ice rink are available from www.christmasinleicester.co.uk and are also available from Visit Leicester on Gallowtree Gate.

Tickets for adult skaters are £9 at off-peak times and £10 at peak-time sessions, with children’s tickets costing £7.50 at off-peak times or £8.50 at peak times.

Discounts are available for groups of four or more people, so a family of four will be able to skate for £30 (off-peak) or £34 at peak times.

The Jubilee Square ice rink will be open from Thursday 6 December until Sunday 6 January 2019.

Detail of all events taking place in Leicester this Christmas will be available at www.christmasinleicester.co.uk, with new events and activities constantly added to the site in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
