More overnight closures due as London Road improvement scheme progresses

Published on Tuesday, April 23, 2019

THE latest phase of resurfacing gets under way on London Road this week, meaning there will be more overnight road closures in place on parts of the busy road.

From Wednesday 24 April, night work will take place between Mayfield roundabout and Granville Road, closing this stretch of London Road to inbound traffic from 7pm to 6am.

Inbound traffic will be diverted via Victoria Park Road, Welford Road and the ring road. Outbound traffic using London Road will be unaffected.

The planned overnight works are due to take place on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 24 to Thursday 25 April, and Thursday 2 to Friday 3 May – including a section of Evington Road at its junction with London Road, with diversions via Beckingham Road.
  • Friday 26 April and Tuesday 30 April, Wednesday 1 May to Thursday 2 May – including Granville Road.

Some evening bus services will need to use alternative routes and temporary bus stops during the night time closures.

The closures are required for resurfacing to be carried out as part of ongoing work on the London Road improvement scheme.

The £3.9milllion project is revamping the route between Granby Street and the Mayfield roundabout to create a safer and a more appealing route for pedestrians and cyclists.

The cycling improvements are backed by £1.2million for the European Regional Development Fund.

Work is being carried out on behalf of Leicester City Council by Eurovia, one of the world’s leading transport infrastructure construction and development companies.
