Outdoor gig cancelled due to severe weather

THE FIRST event in De Montfort Hall's 'Gigs in the Gardens' series - due to take place tonight (Friday) - has been cancelled following warnings of severe weather in Leicester.
The gig, featuring grime artists Bugzy Malone, Yxng Bane and Wretch 32, was due to open its gates at 5pm tonight, but with forecasters predicting heavy rain from this afternoon until late into the evening, the city council, the artists and their management teams have agreed that the outdoor event should not take place.
De Montfort Hall general manager Antony Flint said: "Cancelling the event is obviously not a decision we've taken lightly, but after lengthy discussions late last night and early this morning, everyone involved has reluctantly accepted that the weather is going to get the better of us today.
"The rain is predicted to be relentless tonight - and no one is going to enjoy an outdoor gig in conditions like that.
“We sincerely regret and understand the disappointment of those who have bought tickets for tonight. Refunds will of course be made and we will also be talking with all three acts to see whether we can schedule performances for these artists at De Montfort Hall at a later date.
"Although it's extremely disappointing to lose the opening night of our Gigs in the Gardens series, we're pleased to note that the weather for the rest of the weekend and beyond is looking much, much better.
"We’ll be welcoming Busted, Scouting for Girls and Professor Green to our beautiful garden setting tomorrow (Saturday), and The Kaiser Chiefs, The Vaccines and The Twang will be here on Sunday for what should be two unforgettable nights.”
Anyone who purchased their tickets directly from De Montfort Hall will be contacted by De Montfort Hall about a full refund, and anyone who purchased tickets from a ticket agent should contact the company they bought them from for refund information.
