A SECTION of Leicester’s outer ring road will be closed to traffic this Sunday (December 8) to allow emergency repairs to be carried out.

Krefeld Way will be closed in both directions between Strasbourg Drive and Beaumont Leys Lane from 6am until around 1pm on December 8, so that the city council can carry out patch repairs to sections of the road.

Over 700 square metres of road surface needs replacing or repairing, costing about £25,000 in total.

Signs warning drivers to take extra care on the uneven surface are in place.

City Highways Director Martin Fletcher said: “The condition of the road surface has deteriorated rapidly in recent days, with the prolonged wet weather compounding problems on this busy stretch of the outer ring road.

“This section of Krefeld Way will be closed for seven hours or so on Sunday, December 8, to allow us to carry out these emergency repairs.

“Diversions will be in place while work is under way, but the road will be re-opened as quickly as possible to minimise inconvenience to drivers.”

The diversion route will send eastbound traffic onto Anstey Lane, Blackbird Road and Abbey Lane. Westbound traffic will use the same route in reverse. Localised diversion routes will also be in place during the works.
