Parapet repairs on Soar Valley Way to start in July
Published on Thursday, June 27, 2019
Work to repair the damaged bridge parapets on Soar Valley Way (A563), between Fosse Park and the junction to Lutterworth Road will begin in July.
The repairs are due to start on Monday, 15 July, and will be carried out by Leicestershire County Council. They are anticipated to take two weeks to complete and will involve the removal and replacement of the damaged safety fences.
To enable these repairs, Soar Valley Way will be closed in both directions for two nights on Saturday, 13 July, and Friday, 26 July, 2019. A further overnight closure may take place on Sunday, 14 July, in the event of any unforeseen delays.
The closures will be needed from 8pm to 6am and there will be signed diversion routes during these times. At all other times the roads will be open to one lane of traffic in both directions with a speed restriction of 30mph in place for the duration of the works.
Councillor Blake Pain, the county council’s cabinet member for environment and transport said: "This work is essential to fix the damage to the parapets.
"We are keen to do these repairs as quickly as possible and with minimal disruption to residents, businesses and members of the travelling public, which is why they are taking place during the school summer holidays.
"However, as Soar Valley Way is a very busy stretch of road, I would encourage motorists to plan ahead for the extra journey time they may need and thank them in advance for their patience."
Repairs are expected to be completed by 29 July, 2019, subject to weather conditions.
During the closure the proposed alternative diversion route will be via:-
B4114 Narborough Road South, B5460 Narborough Road South Enderby, B5460 Narborough Road, A47 St Augustine Road, Peacock Lane, Southgates, A594 Oxford Street, Infirmary Road,A426 Aylestone Road, A426 Lutterworth Road and vice versa.
