ONE of the busiest sections of Leicester’s outer ring road is to undergo a series of overnight essential repairs this week.

Essential resurfacing work is being carried out jointly by Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council, on a stretch of Soar Valley Way, between Fosse Park shopping Centre in Enderby, and Lutterworth Road over the city boundary.

The essential works will involve removing the existing damaged road surface, replacing it with new material and replacing the traffic loops which help control signals.

Work will be carried out in a series of overnight closures, between 10pm and 6am, taking place for up to five nights from Tuesday, March 19, to Friday, March 22. A signed diversion route will be in place.

Inspections will also be carried out to check the general condition of the structures forming parts of the road.

The city council part of the work is costing £71,000.

Director of City Highways at Leicester City Council, Martin Fletcher, said: “This section of Soar Valley Way is a very busy commuter route shared between the city and county, which needs essential resurfacing works.

“By doing the works overnight, we are ensuring it can stay open during peak periods to accommodate the high volumes of traffic which need to use this route.

“We’ve contacted nearby residents and businesses to ensure they are aware of the works and any inconvenience it may cause them.

“These repairs will help ensure the road surface is in suitable condition to be able to handle the demands placed on it by modern traffic.”
