THERE’S lots going on in Leicester during the half-term break – with plenty of family-friendly activities on offer that are completely free of charge.

Ideas for things to do this week include making your own magic models at Newarke Houses Museum today (Monday 17 February - £3 charge), enjoying a day out at the Abbey Pumping Station tomorrow (Tuesday 18 February), having a laugh with Chuckle Time at Beaumont Leys Library at 2pm on Wednesday (19 February), making sparkly snowflakes at Frosty Time at the Guildhall on Thursday (20 February - £3 charge), and an afternoon of free fun at The Grove on Braunstone Grove on Friday (21 February).

There’ll be free fun at adventure playgrounds around the city from Monday to Friday – and the city council will also be taking its Pop-Up Museum to Highcross from Tuesday until Friday (18-21 February). Discover fascinating items from the museums’ collections in the former Thomas Cook store on the first floor of Highcross, close to Debenhams.

The city council has pulled together details of half-term events in Leicester that are free or low-cost and published the information on its families’ website.

Deputy city mayor Cllr Sarah Russell – who leads on the city council’s anti-poverty agenda - said: “We want to encourage families to get out and about this half-term and enjoy spending time together, without having to worry about the cost.

“Our libraries and museums are always free for everyone to enjoy, but during half-term, there’s always something extra going on for children and families.

“We’ve pulled together a list of free and low-cost activities, all provided by the city council or partner organisations, which should give parents and carers lots of ideas for a fantastic half-term break that doesn’t cost the earth.”

There are also ticketed events going on as part of the UK Kids’ Comedy Festival, which continues until 23 February.
