ART inspired during people’s experience of lockdown in Leicester will be taking centre stage in a new exhibition planned for New Walk Museum and Art Gallery.
The city council’s museums and galleries outreach team is calling on local people to submit artwork for the “Inspired In Lockdown” exhibition, which will go on show when New Museum and Art Gallery reopens to the public.
People can submit digital images of 2D and 3D art, crafts, sculpture, paintings, drawings or any other creative pieces prompted by the time spent in lockdown.
The idea is to create a record of local art and creativity during the unprecedented lockdown conditions of the last four months, the images of which will be projected onto screens around the museum, including the centrepiece Victorian Gallery.
Anyone wanting to take part can submit their work to museums@leicester.gov.uk, with the subject ‘Inspired by Lockdown’ throughout July and August, accompanied by their name and a title for each piece.
Leicester deputy city mayor for culture, leisure and sport, Cllr Piara Singh Clair, said: “The experience of lockdown has been something none of us have ever experienced before these last few months, and this exhibition will give us the chance to celebrate the creativity of the city under those restricted, and often very demanding, circumstances.
“As we all look to the future beyond lockdown conditions, this exhibition will reflect on that time and the sparks of artistic flair and creative ingenuity and that so often help us get through dark, difficult times.”
