ADULTS wanting to learn new skills or explore ways of improving their wellbeing can take part in a series of free online workshops next month.
Leicester Adult Skills and Learning Service (LASALS) is running a weeklong festival of wellbeing – called The Great Escape – to offer people the chance to join informal online workshops and classes designed to help them manage the stresses of day-to-day life.
The festival launches on Monday 8 February, and then runs for five days, offering a wide range of free sessions during the daytime and evening.
Sixteen sessions will take place during the week, including drawing workshops, creative writing, yoga, music theory, self-care and IT skills.
There will also be sessions looking at how to make home learning fun for children and how to escape the negative effects of fake news and online scams.
All sessions need to be booked in advance and will take place online due to current coronavirus restrictions.
Kerry Gray, Leicester City Council head of adult skills and learning services, said: “We want to give people the chance to try something new and showcase the benefits of taking part in online learning workshops as an escape from the day-tod-ay challenges we all face.
“Our normal classroom activities are suspended for the time-being, but our tutors have been working hard to ensure that people can continue to benefit from a range of courses from the safety of their homes.
“Learning at any level, at any stage of life, can be very rewarding. It is a good way of meeting people, picking up new skills or preparing for a new qualification.”
