THE city council is urging people to find out whether they or someone they know are eligible for pension credit.
By claiming before 18 December pensioners could be entitled to an extra £324 cost of living payment from the Government.
Pension credit is designed to help people who are over state pension age and on a low income with daily living costs, although you don’t need to be in receipt of state pension to receive it.
Cllr Sarah Russell, asst city mayor for anti-poverty said: “The average pension credit award is worth more than £3,500 a year and it also gives access to a wide range of other benefits such as help with housing costs, council tax or heating bills, in addition to the extra cost of living payments.
“If you think you, or someone you know may be eligible to receive it, please make your claim before Sunday 18 December so that you don’t lose out.”
You can find out if you’re eligible for pension credit and a range of other benefits by using the Better Off tool on the council’s website here: BetterOff Leicester
