Support on offer this No Smoking Day

A graphic encouraging people to stop smoking - it's time to take back your health

SMOKERS are being urged ‘not to give up on giving up’ this No Smoking Day.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 9 March, is No Smoking Day and experts from the city council’s stop smoking service, Live Well Leicester, are encouraging all local smokers to think about giving up, even if they’ve tried before.

Live Well stop smoking advisors will be at the Haymarket shopping centre from 9am-5.30pm on Wednesday 9th March where they will be available to provide plenty of advice, support and tips to help people to successfully quit smoking.

Harpreet Sohal from the service said: “We know that most smokers will have tried to quit at one time, but you should never give up on giving up! Every attempt will bring you closer to success.

“Quitting smoking with help from a stop smoking service really boosts your chances of quitting successfully – in fact, you’re three times more likely to quit with support than by trying on your own. We will provide regular support and friendly contact when you need it, to help you stay on track.”

Live Well Leicester has helped thousands of people to quit for good, engaging with 1,350 people during the covid lockdown. The service offers free, non-judgemental support via telephone or face to face appointments.

Assistant city mayor for public health Cllr Vi Dempster said: “I was a long-term smoker myself, smoking for 40 years before I gave up, so I know first-hand the benefits of giving up. If you’re a smoker, giving up is the best thing you can do for your health. But we all know it can be hard, which is why gaining support from your family, friends and a stop smoking service like Live Well can make all the difference.

“If you’re in town on Wednesday, visit Live Well’s advisors in the Haymarket shopping centre and find out more about the range of support they can provide to help you quit and stay quit.”

You can also call the service on 0116 454 4000 to speak to an advisor, or get in touch through the website or our Facebook and Twitter pages:
