CITY council buildings in Leicester will be closed on Monday (19 September) – the day of the State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen.

The date has been confirmed as a Bank Holiday, which means that council buildings such as museums, leisure centres, libraries and schools will be closed.

Burials and cremations that have been arranged, however, will go ahead as planned, while the provision of critical services – such as children’s safeguarding and emergency repairs – will continue as normal.

Park & Ride services in Leicester will not be running on Monday, while local bus operators will be running a Sunday service.

People planning on travelling to London on Monday are advised to allow plenty of time for their journey and to check bus and train operators’ websites for any last-minute changes to their itinerary.
