WOULD-BE wizards can take part in a day of crafts, games and activities in the beautiful gardens of Belgrave Hall this week.

There will be wizard-themed face-painting and Quidditch-inspired broomstick games as part of Wednesday’s drop-in event.

Wizard School at Belgrave Hall runs from 11am-3pm on Wednesday (9 August) and admission is £3. Tickets can be booked in advance online, or people can simply pay at the door (cash only please).

Also on Wednesday (9 August), Leicester’s Town Hall Square will once again be taken over by children for a day of free fun and outdoor games.

With traditional games, such as skipping and hula hooping, as well as creative play sessions and lots of arts and crafts activities, the Mini Playday runs from 11am until 2pm. The session will be repeated on Wednesday 16 August for the last time this summer.

On Thursday (10 August), youngsters can put on their favourite dressing-up clothes and head for Leicester’s Guildhall for a Knights & Princesses-themed day.

Children will be able to make a fabric pennant for their bedroom door, create some royal jewellery, and follow the dragon trail around the museum.

There’s a £3 charge for activities and families can drop in between 11am and 3pm.

Other ideas for summer fun in Leicester include a Railway Day at Abbey Pumping Station (Tuesday 15 August and Tuesday 22 August), which runs from 11.30am-4pm, and a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Newarke Houses Museum on Tuesday 15 August (£3 charge for crafts).
