AN eye-catching museum exhibition showcasing the talents of three local autistic artists has been extended until March 2024.
Through My Eyes, which is in Leicester Museum and Art Gallery’s “Leicester Stories” gallery, highlights the creative work of three creative people, all of whom are autistic and one who also has a learning disability.
It was meant to run from September 2023 until January 2024, but has now been extended to March 3, 2024.
Those featured in the exhibition include gifted photographer David Brown, musician Thomas Corden who is better known on social media as ItsTCThePianoman, and artist Clare Pipes, whose emotive glasswork sculpture Theatre of Birds is now due to be donated to the city’s museums.
The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between Leicester City Council and Soft Touch Arts, and is designed to challenge the stigma surrounding people with additional needs and to showcase their artistic skills and abilities.
Leicester deputy city mayor for social care, health and community safety, Cllr Sarah Russell, said: “This exhibition has proved to be popular with visitors, and shows what local neurodiverse artists have achieved.
“It’s inspirational to see the artwork, glasswork and photography on show.”
Soft Touch Arts is one of Leicester’s leading art charities, which works with young people with additional support needs.
