FREE taster sessions for adult learners will be on offer at an open day later this month.

Leicester Adult Education will be holding a summer open day on Thursday 27 June, giving people the chance to find out more about the wide range of learning opportunities available in the city – whether you want to improve basic employability skills, develop a new hobby or gain qualifications.

Among the free sessions on offer will be Spanish language tasters, pebble art, bag-making and fun maths. They will take place at Leicester Adult Education College, in Belvoir Street, and booking is not required – you can just drop in any time from 11am to 7pm on the day.

The event will be offering information and advice as well as the chance to enrol – so visitors to the centre can drop in to chat to specialist tutors. This means you can easily find out what level you’re at and enrol on a course that’s right for you.

As well as programmes covering the arts, humanities and wellbeing, Leicester Adult Education offers courses in skills for work, English, maths and ESOL (English for speakers of other languages).

There are also family learning sessions, community-based adult education sessions for mental health, and courses for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities.

The adult education service is run by Leicester City Council. Kerry Gray, head of learning at Leicester Adult Education, said: “This open day is a great chance to find out more about the wide range of opportunities on offer in Leicester, whether you’re returning to learn or starting out to gain a new skill.

“Our courses offer something for everyone, with some available for free or at very reduced costs for people who meet our eligibility criteria. In this way, we aim to make lifelong learning something that is accessible to everyone.”

Adult learner Julijana studied her way through ESOL courses and progressed onto English. She is now studying for a Level 3 Diploma in early years education. "Studying with Leicester Adult Education has been such an enjoyable journey,” she said. “It has been helped by the kind and understanding tutors.”

Katherine, who studied business administration with Leicester Adult Education, said: "This is the best college I have ever been to. It's been nice to meet fellow students, we’ve built up quite a good friendship. It’s improved my confidence."
