LEICESTER’s popular festive ice rink opens in Jubilee Square on Thursday (5 Dec) – and this year, skaters can enjoy gliding over 20,000 glittering LED lights installed beneath the ice.
Finishing touches are currently being made to the rink, and tickets are available now from iceskateleicester.co.uk
The rink will be open every day up to 5 January, apart from Christmas Day, usually from 10am to 10pm. Ticket prices start from just £7 plus online booking fee.
Visitors to the rink on Sundays can enjoy ‘meet and greet’ sessions with Disney and Marvel characters, and on selected dates, there will be family-friendly ‘Drag on ice’ events, as well as a student night and sessions for children with special needs, when there will be no flashing lights or loud music. The rink is also fully wheelchair accessible.
Cllr Vi Dempster, assistant city mayor for leisure and culture, said: “It’s great to have the ice rink back in Leicester again. Sitting next to the big wheel on Jubilee Square, it’s a real focal point for our celebrations, and along with the new festive market it means there is lots to enjoy in the city centre this Christmas.”
Last year, more than 41,000 people took to the ice at Leicester’s Christmas ice rink. This year, for the first time, more than 20,000 LED lights will be installed beneath the ice to add to the magic. And because the rink is covered, skating can take place whatever the weather.
