A NEW and upgraded website has been launched for users of Leicester libraries.

The website – at bookfinder.leicester.gov.uk – allows library members to search for, reserve and renew books, submit book reviews, read book news and access the online library catalogue for ebooks and other resources.

Library members can manage their accounts online and view their loans on the website, as well as viewing contact details, maps and opening hours for all of the city’s 16 libraries.

It’s an upgrade on the previous Leicester Libraries online catalogue, with a more user-friendly and accessible layout, plus a range of new features including a What’s On events guide, showing all forthcoming events and activities across the city’s 16 libraries. Browse or search for events in specific locations, between date ranges, on a special theme or for a specific audience, such as events for children.

The website is much easier than before to view on a mobile phone, and links to the free Leicester Libraries app, which can be downloaded from the Apple and Google Play stores.

Assistant city mayor for culture, libraries and community centres, Cllr Vi Dempster, said: “The new Bookfinder website is a great resource for all library users and a big improvement on the previous site. It’s now much easier to view on a phone and it has a new events listing section, which is really important because there’s so much going on at all of our libraries.

“As well as our regular homework clubs and Toddler Time sessions, we hold author talks and workshops, we offer Warm Welcome activities such as art, craft and cooking sessions; we have job shops for people seeking work and energy advice to help you save money on your energy bills. Plus we have seasonal activities for families, with free craft, activity and storytelling sessions in the school holidays.

“With all this going on, we want to make sure people can make the most of what our libraries have to offer. The new website shows people quickly and clearly all the activities we run, so that more and more people can get involved.”

Library members don’t need to do anything new to access their account on the new website – just log in as usual using your library card number and PIN.
