A PROGRAMME of resurfacing on and around a busy road in the north-west of the city will get underway later this week.

Leicester City Council will begin work to resurface Bennion Road, in Beaumont Leys, from Friday 8 November. The planned work will be carried out in four phases to minimise disruption.

From Friday (4 Nov), Bennion Road will be closed to traffic, between its junctions with Anstey Lane and Orwell Drive, for up to five days.

Work will then move further along Bennion Road from Wednesday 13 November. This will require the road to be temporarily closed at the Orwell Road junction and up to, but not including, the roundabout at Beaumont Way and Boston Road. This second phase of work is expected to last up to five days.

From Monday 18 November, overnight works will take place to resurface the Bennion Road/Beaumont Way/Boston Road roundabout. The roundabout will be closed to all traffic between 8pm and 6am for up to three nights. The roundabout will be open to traffic during the daytime.

A final phase of resurfacing is then due to take place on Rutherford Road, between its junctions with Orwell Road and Beaumont Way, from Thursday 21 November. This will require overnight road closures for up to three nights.

The resurfacing programme follows a range of improvements carried out on Bennion Road last year. These included the creation of new cycle tracks, new crossings and wider footpaths. More space for walking, wheeling and cycling was created by removing hatched markings from the centre of the road to narrow the carriageway while maintaining two lanes of traffic in both directions.

A Leicester City Council spokesperson said: “This latest round of highway improvements will further improve this important route for all road users. Every effort has been made to minimise disruption to traffic while works are carried out.”
