A BUSY road in Leicester’s West End will be closed to traffic next week while repairs and resurfacing are carried out.
Leicester City Council will carry out work the essential maintenance work along a stretch of Western Boulevard, between its junctions with Braunston Gate and Taragon Road, from Monday 16 September.
The work, which is expected to take up to five days to complete, will require a full closure of this stretch of road. A well signposted diversion will be in place via Upperton Road, Fosse Road South, Hinckley Road, Braunstone Road North, New Park Street.
Some bus services will also be diverted.
The work will take place at the same time as resurfacing of the main carriageway on part of Mill Lane is carried out, as improvements to the route at De Montfort University’s busy campus enter their final phases.
Rupert Bedder, Leicester City Council highways network manager, said: “Western Boulevard is a busy and important route, but its surface is showing signs of wear and tear that we need to address. The improvement work already under way on Mill Lane presents a good opportunity to tackle the required maintenance work on Western Boulevard.
“The resurfacing work needed will mean closing the road to traffic for up to five days. We know roadworks like this can cause disruption and delays to drivers, but they are vital to keep the city’s streets in good condition to cope with modern-day demands. We’ll be working hard to complete the resurfacing as quickly as possible.”
