ROLLING road closures will be implemented in Leicester on Sunday (31 August) to allow a religious procession to safely take place.
The Milad Un Nabi procession - which is expected to attract hundreds of people - has been organised by Leicester Islamic Centre. It will start from the centre, in Sunderland Street, at 1.15pm on Sunday 31 August, before processing along St. Peters Road, East Park Road, St. Saviours Road, Hartington Road, Melbourne Road, Berners Street and Maidstone Road, finishing at the Central Mosque in Conduit Street.
It means that these roads will be closed to traffic for a short while on Sunday afternoon while the procession goes past - as well as a small section of Sparkenhoe Street, when the procession crosses it to get from Maidstone Road to Conduit Street.
Leicester Islamic Centre has been organising the annual procession for more than 30 years, and works closely with the police and city council to ensure it can take place safely.
Motorists are advised to expect delays as the procession passes through the area. Advance warning signs will be in place in the days before the event.
Bus operators will also make any necessary adjustments as the procession passes along the route.
