PEOPLE are being invited to have their say on outline proposals to improve Leicester’s network of safe routes for walkers, wheelers and cyclists.
Leicester City Council has today (20 Aug) published its draft Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan for public consultation.
The draft plan sets out the long-term vision and priorities for improving cycling and walking routes across the city to help create a safer, better connected and more accessible network for everyone.
It includes proposed locations for new or improved routes. These will become priority routes for future investment, subject to available funding, and include 26 primary cycling routes and 74 walking routes.
All the proposed routes have also been assessed with consideration for people who use mobility aids such as scooters, wheelchairs, walking frames, prams or buggies.
People can have their say on the proposals and provide comments on existing routes or suggestions for new ones, by taking part in an online survey.
Cllr Geoff Whittle, assistant city mayor for environment and transport, said: “It is vital that we continue to develop schemes and invest in the infrastructure that will help to make walking, wheeling and cycling the preferred choice for everyday trips for most people.
“This draft plan sets out our long-term vision to further extend the city’s growing network of safe and attractive routes from the city centre into our local neighbourhoods, and we want to give people a chance to have their say.”
People can take part in the consultation by completing the online survey at www.leicester.gov.uk/consultations
The closing date for comments is Wednesday 17 September.
