BUS passengers in the East Midlands area can now benefit from half-price travel in the Leicester area.

Leicester Buses Partnership is now offering its popular Flexi day and week tickets for 50% off the normal price as an add-on for passengers purchasing an Arriva or Centrebus East Midlands Zonal day or week m-ticket.

The multi-operator Flexi ticketing scheme allows people to travel on any bus service in the Greater Leicester Flexi area on Arriva, Centrebus, First, Kinchbus, Stagecoach and Central Connect services.

The Flexi area covers Leicester city centre and out to Birstall, Syston, Hamilton, Scraptoft, Oadby, Kilby, South Wigston, Countesthorpe, Whetstone, Grove Park, Thorpe Astley, Leicester Forest East, Kirby Muxloe, and Groby.

Leicester Bus Partnership has been working with local bus operators to expand the Flexi ticket range, with the new cut-price add-on for passengers from further afield being the latest addition.

Cllr Geoff Whittle, assistant city mayor for environment and transport, said: “Leicester Buses Partnership has been a huge success and is helping to transform public transport in the city.

“This new Flexi add-on is the latest improvement that local bus companies have come together to offer, encouraging people from further afield to travel into and around the city by bus, and save money at the same time.”

Toby France, head of commercial at Arriva east Midlands, said: “Our new ‘Arriva East Midlands+ Flexi’ tickets allow customers travelling into the city on our network of interurban bus services from across the East Midlands to make unlimited local journeys within Leicester across all bus companies’ services.  One ticket, with a multitude of journeys; Market Bosworth to Beaumont Leys, Melton Mowbray to Mowmacre Hill, and Lutterworth to Leicester General Hospital to name but a few.

“We’re committed to working with the Leicester Buses partnership to ensure Arriva services continue to be great value and easy to use, and with these new tickets there’s never been a better time to get onboard.”

Keith Myatt, Head of Business Development for Centrebus, said: “The new Flexi Add-On ticket will let customers travel within Leicester City on any bus operator after arriving on Centrebus services from the wider Leicestershire Area.  These new tickets will make trips like Quorn to the National Space Centre or Uppingham to Fosse Park more affordable.

“As part of the Leicester Buses Partnership we are committed to keeping services affordable and accessible, making now an ideal time to choose the bus over driving”

The Leicester Buses Partnership consists of all local bus operators (Arriva, Centrebus, First, Kinchbus, Roberts Travel, Stagecoach and Central Connect) and the city council working and investing together under an agreed long-term plan.

It aims to make bus travel electric, reliable, frequent, easy and great value to use.

The Leicester Buses Partnership’s Flexi ticketing range has options for everyone, including from adult, child, student and family tickets. They are accepted on all bus services in Leicester, except the Park & Ride.
