FAMILIES heading into Leicester for the switch-on of the city’s famous Christmas lights on Wednesday (19 November) are reminded that Park & Ride buses will be running until 9pm that night.

The service will be extended at all three Park & Ride sites so that people can enjoy the fun-packed programme of entertainment that gets under way in the city centre at 5pm.

Buses will run every 15 minutes, with the last buses leaving the city centre for Meynell’s Gorse, Birstall and Enderby at 9pm on Wednesday (19 November).

Operated by Roberts Travel Group, the Park & Ride service offers a group ticket that allows up to five people in one car to travel to the city centre and back for just £6.

There’s also a good deal for cyclists looking for a safe place to park their bikes in Leicester city centre on Wednesday (19 November).

Those cycling into Leicester for the big switch-on will be able to make use of the secure parking facilities at the Bike Park Cycle Hub in Town Hall Square, where opening hours will be extended until 9pm.

Cyclists need to sign up for an Active Leicester Cycle Hub membership to use the Bike Park, but anyone using the site on Wednesday 19 November will be offered free membership as an early Christmas gift. Membership normally costs £10 for 12 months.

The build-up to the switch-on of Leicester’s Christmas lights gets under way at 5pm on Wednesday (19 November), with live music and street performers in Town Hall Square, a Christmas Market on Gallowtree Gate, the popular Wheel of Light in Jubilee Square and a funfair on Humberstone Gate. The big switch-on itself takes place at 6.30pm at the Clock Tower.
