ARE you dreaming of dosas? Craving crepes? Or manifesting mac n’ cheese? Whatever your tastes, a new booklet listing Leicester’s huge range of independent eateries can help.

The free Taste the Place restaurants booklet is the ideal starting place for anyone looking for somewhere to eat in the city centre.  The booklet includes a colour-coded map and lists more than 100 restaurants, encompassing everything from curry houses and dessert parlours to vegan menus and traditional British cuisine. And with Restaurant Week currently on in Leicester (20 Oct-2 Nov), there are special offers available at many of the venues.

Among the listings are an array of Chinese and Korean restaurants; curry houses from across India, and Italian bistros offering authentic pasta and pizza. There’s also the chance to taste Czech, Polish or Greek specialities; sample some tapas; enjoy home-cooked African dishes or try Lebanese street food. For dessert, there are several specialist dessert restaurants.

City centre director Sarah Harrison said: “Leicester is a truly cosmopolitan city, and that means it is the ideal place to find a dining experience that will suit you, whatever your tastes.

“Our long history as a welcoming destination has translated into a wealth of really friendly, authentic independent restaurants where you can be sure of some excellent food. It means you can enjoy the flavours of the world in just a few steps across the city.

“This Taste the Place guide is an ideal way to find your new favourite restaurant, whether you’re looking for a taste of home or something new – and during Restaurant Week, you can use it to navigate towards some amazing deals!”

The restaurant booklet is available online at the Visit Leicester website. There’s also a similar Taste the Place Cafes booklet, highlighting Leicester’s array of independent cafés and coffee bars.

Both booklets are available to pick up from the Visit Leicester information centre, inside the King Richard III Centre, 4A St Martins, Leicester LE1 5DB, and from the city’s bus stations, hotels, theatres, universities, and Leicester College.
