A BUSY road in Leicester is due to be closed to traffic for two days next month as preparations get under way for a new residents’ parking scheme.

A stretch of Evington Road – between its junctions with East Park Road and Staveley Road – is due to be closed to traffic over the weekend of Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November, while new road markings are introduced.

Well-signposted diversions will be in place during the road closure.

Then, from Monday 3 November, a series of rolling road closures will begin affecting side streets at their junctions with Evington Road. Parking restrictions will also be in place while work continues.

The works will involve burning off existing road markings and introducing new road markings, including double yellow lines at junctions, and new parking and loading bays.

Work is expected to be complete by Thursday 6 November.

The work is being carried out in preparation for the introduction of a new residents' parking scheme in the area, which will cover more than 20 streets on both sides of Evington Road.

Leicester City Council plans to introduce the new permit parking scheme from mid-November, with full details due to be publicised nearer the time.

Letters will be sent to around 1,300 properties in the area to give details about the scheme and how to apply for permits.

A public drop-in event is also being organised. This will take place at St Philip's Church, on Evington Road, on Wednesday 5 November, between 10 am and 4 pm.
