A PREFERRED developer has been selected to build the next wave of homes on a major mixed-use development on the edge of Leicester.

Tilia Homes, which is part of the untypical group, plans to deliver around 560 new homes on 55 acres of allocated land at Ashton Green – the city’s ambitious housing-led development near Beaumont Leys.

Up to 30% of the new builds would be affordable homes for rent and shared ownership.

The new homes would represent the fourth phase of residential development at Ashton Green, where a total of around 3,000 homes will ultimately be built.

The first 100 houses were completed in 2020, with 245 of the 307 homes scheduled for the second phase now also completed and occupied. A third phase of house building is expected to get under way next year, when a further 441 new dwellings are planned.

City Mayor Peter Soulsby said: “Ashton Green is an essential part of the city’s commitment to meeting the growing and urgent need for new homes in Leicester, while also contributing to local economic growth.

“It’s an extremely ambitious long-term project, so it’s good news that the city council and the Diocese of Leicester – which owns part of the land – have now selected a preferred developer for the next phase of development.

“Tilia Homes has already completed around 245 new homes at Ashton Green as part of the second phase of construction, so I’m pleased that we’ll be working with them on the next phase of this major scheme too.”

Amerjit Atwal, regional managing director for untypical’s central region, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred developer for the fourth phase of Ashton Green.

“Having already successfully delivered the second phase of this important development, we’re excited to continue our partnership with Leicester City Council and the Diocese of Leicester.

“At untypical, we’re committed to creating sustainable communities that meet local needs, and we look forward to bringing our expertise and vision to deliver approximately 560 new homes under the Tilia Homes brand, as part of Leicester’s ambitious growth plans.”

Leicester City Council is the principal landowner and promoter of the Ashton Green development, which is a mixed-use urban extension on a 320-acre greenfield site to the north of Leicester. Around 13-acres of land allocated for the Ashton Green development is owned by the Diocese of Leicester.

The major sustainable urban development scheme aims to create a community of up to 3,000 much-needed new homes, along with community and health facilities, employment land and retail.

It is expected that Tilia Homes will commence the fourth phase of residential development next year, subject to planning permission.
