FAMILY fun and the finest food and drink will be served up in the magnificent surroundings of Leicester’s Abbey Pumping Station this weekend (20-21 September).
Traders selling hot food and sweet treats will be joined in the marquee by artists and makers at the pumping station’s first ever Food & Craft Fair.
With more than 40 stalls and trailers, there will be something for everyone, from homemade pies and curries to waffles and churros, and from milkshakes and specialist coffee to cocktails and cider-tasting.
Handcrafted goods on sale will include jewellery, knitwear, ceramics, prints and candles.
Outdoors, visitors can discover vintage food vehicles and delivery bicycles, including the Kirby & West milk float, the Frears & Blacks bread van and a coal-fired fish & chip van. A vintage steam shovel, Morris crane and the Leicestershire tardis will also be on display.
A ride on the pumping station’s vintage railway (50p charge) is always popular with children, who will also be able to get their faces painted (Saturday only) and have fun in the playground.
There will also be opportunities to learn about the pumping station’s history, with free talks in the engine house on both days.
Cllr Vi Dempster, assistant city mayor for culture, said: “A trip to Abbey Pumping Station is always a great family day out, but this weekend promises to be extra special.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming local food producers, artists and craftspeople to the magnificent surroundings of the pumping station for its first ever Food & Craft Fair – and we hope that local families will join us too.”
Abbey Pumping Station’s Food & Craft Fair takes place on Saturday 20 September and Sunday 21 September, from 11am-4pm on both days.
Admission is £2, with no charge for the under 13s.
