A FREE digital skills programme that supports Leicester residents with low or no online skills has been relaunched by the city council.
Let’s Get Digital aims to help adults build confidence using everyday technology, such as smartphones and tablets, and to support greater independence, wellbeing and access to essential services.
The programme offers free, tutor‑led courses, delivered in small, supportive groups. Courses are short and practical, typically running over two or three sessions, and are tailored to learners’ everyday needs – from managing health appointments online or planning a journey, to staying in touch with family and friends.
Since it first launched in 2023, more than 500 people have successfully completed a Let’s Get Digital course, helping them feel more confident and connected in an increasingly digital world.
The relaunch follows the confirmation of funding from public health budgets, which will support the programme over the next three years.
Courses are open to people aged 18 and over who live in the city and are aimed particularly at older people, unemployed residents, carers, people with learning disabilities, and those managing health needs. All courses are free of charge.
Assistant city mayor Cllr Vi Dempster said: “Being able to access online services and stay connected is no longer a luxury – it’s essential to everyday life.
“Let’s Get Digital helps remove barriers, giving people the confidence and skills they need to live more independently and stay connected to the people and services that matter the most.
“Our 2024 health and wellbeing survey suggests that 5% of Leicester’s population are digitally excluded, so it’s important that we continue to invest in this programme and support residents who might otherwise be left behind as more services move online.”
Residents can access Let’s Get Digital courses by contacting the Leicester Adult Education service on 0116 454 1900 or by searching their website at leicesteradulted.ac.uk/courses
Courses will start at the Adult Education College on Wellington Street on Tuesday 5 May, Wednesday 3 June, and Thursday 11 June. A further Let’s Get Digital course will start at New Parks Library on Friday 5 June.
