MORE than 96% of children have got their first choice of primary school in Leicester.

Today (16 April) is National Offer Day, when families across the country find out which primary school their child will attend for the 2026/27 academic year.

Thousands of children across the city have been offered a primary school place, with 96.8% securing their first-choice school. 99.3% of children have been offered a place at one of their top three preferred schools.

A total of 3,629 on-time applications were received from families in Leicester.

Online applicants – who made up 93% of all applications – can log on to the admissions website from midnight on National Offer Day (16 April) to view their offer. Emails will also be sent on the day, with letters posted to all applicants within two to three days.

Cllr Elaine Pantling, assistant city mayor for education, said: “We know that starting school for the first time can be an anxious time for families, and our aim is always to take as much of the stress out of the process as possible.

“We are very pleased that, once again, the vast majority of families who applied on time have secured a place at one of their preferred schools, with more than 96% receiving their first choice. Importantly, every child whose application was submitted on time has been offered a school place.”

Only 25 applicants did not gain a place at one of their preferred schools. Families are strongly encouraged to use all four preferences when applying for school, as the main reason for not securing a preferred school was listing only one school preference.
