A PROPOSAL from Leicester’s City Mayor to create a £2 million fund to give additional support to Leicester’s adventure playgrounds has been approved by the city council.
City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby says the fund will further assist the city’s play associations with the transition to making adventure playgrounds sustainable, without council funding.
Peter Soulsby said: “Having met with the play associations over recent weeks, I have been very impressed by the progress they’ve already made to develop business plans and generate new funding. However, I do understand that this is quite a challenge and doesn’t happen overnight.
“Now that the Government has begun the process of redistributing its funding to areas like Leicester, we are in a position to offer them some additional support.
“I will be contacting all of the play associations in the next few days to invite them to put forward their proposals for using this transitional fund, particularly in relation to how they will make sure the land and buildings they operate from can be used safely by young people.”
The £2 million transitional fund was approved at the council’s annual budget setting meeting on 25 February.
